"An Ode to The Bay"
Bede Payne has become a strong supporter of Bonnet Bay FC and its unique culture over the past few years. He has never been a player but he is a fan and has prepared the following which captures his impressions of The Bay. We encourage other members to do the same whether with words, art or other methods of expression.
there's a whisper on the water
about a place they call the bay
words passed to sons and daughters
words of courage, firm and stay
the light shines down on this patch
the place they call their home
and whispers grow before each match
you can feel it in your bones
heres a place where feet are warriors
and bodies ten foot tall,
teams walk away from this home ground
with nothing but their ball
the lines are clear and battles marked
this place where hearts are true
its nothing less than beauty
to watch the Lime and Blue
We stand as one, our heads held high
as we march into the fray
'cause nothing can defeat us
not one from Bonnet Bay
but here there's more than football
there's families n’ friends with blood as thick
blown in from all the flats in hills
to have some fun n’ have kick
this is where the passion lives
mum and dad, kids and more
it’s everyone and what they give
it’s Bonnet Bay to the core
Try listen for that whisper
which strengthens Friday dusk
and by time the weekend rolls
stings nostrils like cutting musk
But wait, it’s this…
This sight on Sunday night
with Bay’ers screaming loud
with football on our tidal pitch
we're Bonnet Bay and proud
Bede Payne
