2008 Senior Presentation
Fellow committee members, coaches, players and friends of Bonnet Bay football club - Welcome to the 27th annual senior presentation night.
As another year passes I would like to sincerely thank all of you for making this season operate as smoothly as it has. Sure at times I made mistakes but I know that i have left the club even stronger than before and made progress on issues for the future committee.
They say records are made to be broken and this year is no exception good and not so 11 out of 22 competition teams made the finals with zero from 4 teams winning the grand finals. Yes you take the good with the not so good and try to work on making improvements.
On the table before you we have set some goals for season 2009. Remember this is not my club; it is ours and it is with your input that the club can only improve and it is imperative that you attend future meetings and impart your ideas for the betterment of our community club.
We have kicked some goals this year and without going through the list our one greatest achievement was to secure a second field.
Seven years in the making and still further improvements to occur this will lay the foundation to develop our junior ranks which sadly I have been unable to attract.
I promise that tonight we can finalise the awards earlier than previous years so we can let our hair down and celebrate with our football family dancing and drinking the night away.
My utmost appreciation to you all for your support Bonnet Bay rocks.

Now to perpetual award recipients.
At the youth presentation some weeks ago some perpetual awards were presented
McCallum trophy – 16C (128 years service with the club)
BBFC team encouragement - W13B
Elms award for women’s soccer - W18C Tonight
Paul Ferguson Memorial Award – Best Performed Team
Paul Ferguson was a well-respected member of the Bonnet Bay community and soccer club, who worked tirelessly on the committee as the club’s ground and equipment coordinator and was precise and meticulous in his duty. Paul’s memory is carried, through this significant club award to the best “competition” team from the season. The 2008 winners of the Paul Ferguson Memorial Award are the All Age 3’s, a team that were minor premiers and runner up grand finalists.
Ron Miller Memorial Shield - Most Significant Club Achievement
Ron Miller was the 2nd Bonnet Bay Club President (1985, 1986), and was one of those responsible for the early foundation and direction of the Bonnet Bay Soccer Club. This trophy is a proud monument to Ron and is a highly regarded prize within the Bonnet Bay club. The 2008 award for the most outstanding effort by a team during the season, which established a milestone in the club’s development, is the All Age 2 grand final team. While this is by far the highest grade a Bonnet Bay team has fielded the award is presented not so much for this season’s effort but for the team’s achievement in winning four premiership’s and a record 5th straight appearance in a grand final which is particularly impressive as they have continued to be promoted through the grades each season. Next season the nucleus of this team will rise to All Age 1’s becoming the highest graded team in the club’s history.
Gary Lawler Merit Award – Contribution to 21s
Gary Lawler was a ‘favourite son’ within the Bonnet Bay community and soccer club, and held the position of Secretary during the years 1994/ 95 and 1998. Gary also served on the SSFA committee for 10 years and was awarded life membership of the association in 2005. He was instrumental in taking the club’s first group of juniors into all age in 1991. Gary’s irreverent approach helped him win the hearts of players at that critical stage where they move from the junior to senior ranks. He made a very significant contribution to the development of Bonnet Bay’s senior teams.
Awarded to a player from the U21 team who has displayed character, commitment and creativity throughout the year, which has contributed positively to the team’s overall performance.
This year’s winner has grown from our U6 ranks. He has never missed a season and his dedication not only to his team and club but family is testament to his character. Whilst maybe not attending every training session and having a few large nights before game day this is something of the character that Gary Lawler would have applauded. He has always put a lot into his teammates and mentored new players to the Bay. His club spirit is immense. The winner comes from our 21D team and the Gary Lawler merit award goes to Daniel McVicar
Coach of the Year
This award in its second year is an important part of our clubs culture. A hotly contested and difficult decision for us to make in the light of so many candidates at our Club. This guy not only has an impressive coaching record over the seasons he has stepped up as role model for a number of our juniors coming through the ranks . A sponsor of the club and heavily involved out of sight and needing no praise he has been instrumental in raising the profile of BBFC. While being a keen teacher of tactics, his strength is his ability to communicate effectively with his players and the loyalty he shows them is returned five fold. After 26 years of involvement with the Club this years winner is Mr. Kevin Boyle
Club person of the Year
This award is presented to an individual who has displayed significant club loyalty and/or dedication throughout the season. As a non playing President this award is particularly dear to me. Not only a player for BBFC they area tireless member of the workings of our Club. This person displays the enthusiasm rivaled by non other. Their leadership and devotion to the day to day running of various areas of our grounds is exemplary. She is heavily involved in everything that happens within the club. Your winner Anne West
