2009 Grand Finals

Grand final weekend was an outstanding success with The Bay performing extremely well on and off the field claiming 3 premierships and the undisputed title of best supported club in the association.

The 11E kicked the weekend off in fine style taking an early lead then holding off a very determined Loftus team to add a 3-1 grand final win to their minor premiership.

Next the 14D went down 0-1 in extra time to Georges River in an epic battle which could have gone either way.

Sunday saw the W16B fall to a very skilled Marton side. Our girls had their chances but their opponents proved just a little too strong.

The first match at the main stadium saw our W21A team go down 1-3 to a handpicked Kirrawee outfit. An upset was on the cards early in the second half with The Bay throwing everything at Kirrawee who eventually took control of the match.

Our W18B took just 13 seconds to get on the score board and ran out 3-0 winners in a match that was much closer than that. A great performance by the girls.

Finally the Lime Army filled the stand at the main stadium to watch the All Age Men’s 2s take on Engadine. The two teams had finished on equal points on the table with BBFC enjoying an advantage courtesy of goals for and against. This proved critical as the two teams threw everything at one another before  finishing 0-0 after extra time. This is the highest graded premiership The Bay has ever taken out and sets up a move to the Premier League 1 competition in 2010.

At the end of the day the mighty bombers club was the big winner. The Lime Army showed there is a spirit within which sets the Bombers apart from all other clubs. A spirit which sees every team irrespective of their grade receive tremendous following. The amazement on our opponents faces as they saw the size of our crowds at all fields and the organisation of the Lime Army said it all. And the players responded accordingly.

Congratulations to all the players, coaches and managers who represented The Bay over the finals series and even bigger congratulations to the hundreds of supporters who turned up to cheer on their club mates.  A number of our supporters were at every single grand final.
